Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document  30:                              Change MGMT 394 to MGMT 464;

                                                            Add provision to award IP grade in MGMT 492

Effective Date:  Fall 2006

1.  Delete:       On pg. 165, the entry for MGMT 394, Project Management

      Add:                       On pg. 166, revised Project Management course, MGMT 464

                        464       Project Management (3)

Principles and concepts of project management as they relate to contemporary organizations from project inception to termination.  Course integrates team        leadership techniques, network design, scheduling, in-progress reviews, and project auditing into the quantitative skills of network analysis (PERT, CPM) and time versus cost tradeoff.  This integration of qualitative and quantitative skills is accomplished through one or more class projects.  Computer-aided as well as manual approaches to these topics are presented.  Prerequisite:  ACCT 216.  Pre- or corequisite:  MGMT 380.  Even years Spring.

Impact:  This proposal will not adversely affect department majors or minors and in certain cases will enhance these students' academic experience.

Rationale:  As the nation moves from an industrial-based economy to an information-based economy, it has become appropriate to offer students the option to select a course that deals specifically with projects and processes within a manufacturing setting or to select a course that deals with the projects and processes in other areas of business. To that end, the department wishes to give students the option to select either MGMT 460, Production Management, or a course in Project Management. At the same time, it is appropriate for the current Project Management course to be enhanced and the degree of rigor increased to reflect a parity between the two choices,

      Impact:  None

Rationale: This addition gives the instructor the option of awarding an IP when circumstances beyond the student’s control extend the project more than a semester.
