4,5                    3                      CLAS 212

Virgil                 3                      3                      CLAS 102

4,5                    3                      CLAS 212

Impact: None on other departments. The number of students affected will be very small and no additional resources will be necessary.

Rationale: We have determined that students who are capable of getting a 4 or 5 in the Latin Advanced Placement examination are also capable of taking Latin courses at the 300 level. In addition, the Classics departments of UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC-Greensboro both offer more generous credit for AP than we have done up until now, and we are increasingly in competition with them for students. This change will also align us with the department of modern foreign languages at UNCA who now offer credit for the 220 level for a 4 or 5 on their Advanced Placement exams.
