Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document  20:                                          Return SOC 230 to the curriculum,

changing the title and description.

Effective Date: Fall 2006

1.         Add:     On pg. 214, add SOC 230, Marriage, Partnerships and Family Life in America

230    Marriage, Partnerships and Family Life in America (3)

Explores family as a contemporary American institution. Analyzes theories of gender, love and mate selection, as well as the socio-cultural factors behind sexuality. The demographics of marriage, cohabitation, divorce and fertility are examined, and practical matters such as contraception, date rape, sexually transmitted diseases, and household finances are addressed. Odd years Fall.

Impact: There should be minimal impact.  This course has been taught with a slightly different title and course description as a sociology elective for over 10 years.

Rationale: The course title and description have been changed to reflect the changing structure of family life in contemporary America.  The change was to be made in the Sociology curriculum revision effective Fall 2004.  An oversight led to the old course title and description being deleted, without adding the new course title and description.
