Impact:

There is a slight decrease in the number of hours required for the minor. This change affects few students, and therefore has little impact on the other departments represented. According to a report from Archer Gravely, UNCA Institutional Research, the number of declared MMAS minors varied from 1 to 4 students for each of the last six semesters.

Rationale:

This change is essential because previous minor requirements allow students to minor in MMAS without taking any MMAS courses.  Additionally, those students pursuing a minor do not have to take the fundamental MMAS course sequence (MMAS 121, MMAS 151, MMAS 222) that is required for core pedagogical instruction in Multimedia Arts and Science within a Liberal Arts Institution. The existing MMAS minor specification is a holdover from the initial interdisciplinary program that was conceived when there was only one fulltime MMAS faculty member and few MMAS courses being offered each term.
