Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document  28:                  Changes to Options in MMAS Aesthetics and Social Awareness

Effective Date: Fall 2005

Delete:             On p. 177,

B. Aesthetics and Social Awareness—select 3 hours from: MCOM 380, 382, 490; PHIL 301, 310.”

Add:                 In place of deleted entry:

B. Aesthetics and Social Awareness—select 3 hours from: ARTH 365; CSCI 351; MCOM 380, 382, 490; PHIL 301, 310.

Impact Statement:
No additional staff is required. Existing resources can accommodate all changes.

Rationale:
MCOM has proposed adding MCOM 104 as a prerequisite to MCOM 380 and 382.  Prior to this proposed change, MCOM 380 did not have a prerequisite.  Since MCOM 104 is not required for the MMAS major, in effect it will become a hidden prerequisite.  This proposal adds two other course options; CSCI 351, Computer Ethics and ARTH 365, Art After 1960; without prerequisites to the Aesthetics and Social Awareness requirements to provide more options for the MMAS degree.
