Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document 7: Change in required courses for Climatology and Weather Forecasting Concentrations.

Effective Date: Fall 2004

1. Delete: On pg 64, under Concentration in Climatology

I. Required courses in the major-- 36 hours, including: ATMS 103, 214, 305, 310, 320, 340, 405, 410, 411, 420, 455.

Add: On pg 64, in place of the deleted entry

I. Required courses in the major-- 33 hours, including: ATMS 103, 205, 241, 251, 261, 305, 310, 320, 405, 410, 411, 420, 455.

Impact: The course requirements for Climatology Concentration majors will be reduced by 3 credit hours from 36 to 33.

Rationale: The proposed catalog change in ATMS curriculum would streamline course offerings, utilize resources effectively, and strengthen core requirements for majors. A reduction of 3 credit hours required by majors will allow majors to take electives of their choice at UNCA.

2. Delete: On pg 65, under Concentration in Weather Forecasting

I. Required courses in the major-- 33 hours, including: ATMS 103, 205, 214, 305, 310, 320, 350, 410, 411, 455.

Add: On pg 65, in place of the deleted entry

I. Required courses in the major-- 30 hours, including ATMS 103, 205, 241, 251, 261, 305, 310, 320, 350, 410, 411, 455.

Impact: The course requirements for Weather Forecasting Concentration majors will be reduced by 3 credit hours from 33 to 30.
