Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

Addendum to UNCA Honor Code SD2302S

Implementation and Development of UNCA Honor Code

1) Every member of the community commits him or her self to the UNCA Honor Code. It is therefore important that the principles expressed in the Honor Code be used as a teaching tool, especially for new students and transfer students during summer or fall orientations, FYE classes, or elsewhere as appropriate. Faculty teaching other freshmen level classes, notably those in General Education, should be encouraged to further emphasize the concepts identified in Part I, focusing especially on the application of the code to student scholarship, and raising such issues as cheating on exams, plagiarism, and so on, as appropriate.

2) New faculty and staff should be made familiar with the principles in their respective orientations. Faculty should be made aware that the code applies equally to faculty, with their actions toward students, in the conduct of their classes, as well as in the conduct, methodology, and production of their scholarship.
