Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document 31: Change oral and computer competencies in Art History from ARTH 480 to ARTH 484, Senior Research Seminar I

Effective Date: Fall 2011

1. Delete: On pg. 68, under Bachelor of Arts with a Concentration in Art History, in item III:

Oral and computer competency are demonstrated by successful completion of ARTH 480.

Add: On pg. 68, in place of deleted entry:

Oral and computer competency are demonstrated by successful completion of ARTH 484.

Impact:

There will be no impact on faculty or needs.

Rationale:

The requirements for oral and computer competencies for the Art History concentration should be adjusted to the first senior capstone course in which the students will clearly demonstrate abilities in these areas. ARTH 480 is a course on Theory and Methods; since we now have 2 capstone courses, ARTH 484 and 485, the competencies should be moved to the first of these courses. Competencies include research assignments culminating in a formal presentation.
