Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document 36: Editorial changes in the EDUC program required by curriculum changes in PSYC 101/102 and PSYC 318

Effective Date: Fall 2010

1. Delete: On page 245, the entry under Psychology with Teacher Licensure:

Psychology majors who are also completing B-K, 6-9, or K-12 teacher licensure should enroll in PSYC 318 instead of either PSYC 317 or PSYC 332. PSYC 318 fulfills the department’s laboratory course requirement for these teacher licensure students. K-6 licensure students may choose either PSYC 317, 318, or 332 to complete the laboratory course requirement. B-K licensure students should complete PSYC 200, 225, 312, and 345 as part of their required curriculum. See the Education Department section for additional licensure requirements.

Add: On page 245, in place of the deleted entry:

Psychology majors who are also completing middle school teacher licensure are required to take PSYC 319. See the Education Department section for additional licensure requirements.

Impact:

The Education Department has eliminated the B-K and K-12 Reading programs. K-6 licensure students are no longer required to take PSYC 318 (319) to fulfill licensure requirements. Therefore, middle school licensure students majoring in PSYC are the only psychology students who must still take PSYC 319.
