Add MGMT 388 to list of electives in Business Management

and Administration concentration

 Effective Date:  Fall 2010

1.         Add:     On page 198, new course, MGMT 388

388       Leading Organizational Change (3)
Examines theoretical change models, explores the experiences of visionary leaders, and investigates various change issues.  The course presents strategies for transforming ideas into reality and applying these strategies to service-learning community change projects. Provides opportunity to reflect on experiences in order to understand capabilities for leading change in future organizations and throughout society. Prerequisite: MGMT 313.  See department chair.

Impact:
Adding this course will not increase required hours for the students and will not impact the overall departmental teaching load. This course will be added to a list of courses from which the student is required to select two courses, providing more flexibility and choice. The department typically offers two or three of these courses each semester.  The total number of course sections offered will not increase.

Rationale:
It can be argued that all leadership eventually involves leading and managing change.  This is an opportunity for students to learn how to manage the volatile business environment which exists today, enabling them to become leaders of change. Since change leadership blends well with service learning, students will have the opportunity to increase their understanding of the classroom material with an experiential component that builds on core values in liberal arts-- the ability to make connections, think critically, and engage in creative problem-solving.

This course provides another option for students to fulfill a Management requirement. Adding this course to the offerings will provide more flexibility by allowing additional faculty to participate in sequencing courses through the curriculum.

Impact:

Adding 388 to the list of courses provides more options for students and more flexibility for faculty in scheduling courses.

Rationale:

Necessary to reflect the additional course (from section one) in the list of course requirements for the management concentration.
