APC Document  51:                  Addition of HWP 257,   Internship – Exploring Career Choices

Effective Date: Fall 2007

1.  Add:            On page 145, new course, HWP 257:

257             Internship-Exploring Career Choices  (2)

This course is designed for students participating in exploratory internships to clarify and/or advance their career goals.  It provides a structured and guided learning environment to help students make the most of their internship experience. Course components facilitate students’ professional development, focusing on the transition from the role of a student to the role of a professional.  Students must arrange an internship placement prior to the start of the course and are encouraged to meet with the Career Center’s internship coordinator prior to enrolling in the course.  All majors and academic levels are welcome to enroll.  Spring.

Impact:

There will be no impact on the resources and staffing of the Career Center or Health and Wellness Promotion department due to this change. The Career Center’s Internship Coordinator has taught the course each spring since 2005.

Rationale:

This change is being made due to the success of teaching the internship course over the past few years.  There is a continuing demand for internship experiences, specifically those that will allow students to earn college credit.
